Brazilian Butt Lifts have been a wildly popular procedure in the last decade (thanks Kim K!). When performed by a qualified surgeon, BBLs can be a very effective procedure for improving the shape and size of the buttocks, but when they arenot done optimally patients can be left feeling out of proportion and unhappy with their results. Not only can BBLs easily turn out to be over exaggerated, but BBLs have also garnered negative press as a higher risk procedure. So, when bigger doesn’t always turn out better, is a BBL worth the risk?1

Learn more about the basics of BBLs and BBL reversal / reduction liposuction below.

What is a BBL (Brazilian Butt Lift)?

A Brazilian butt lift is a fat transfer procedure that is supposed to increase the size and improve the shape of the buttocks without the use of implants. A surgeon will remove fat from one area of the body, such as the abdomen, lower back, hips, or thighs via liposuction and then inject some of the removed fat back into the buttocks. The goal of the BBL is to improve the proportions of the entire lower body with the removal of fat from common problem areas and add it to the desired location – the buttocks.2

Brazilian Butt Lift Candidates

Like any cosmetic procedure, some patients will be better suited for a BBL than others. Most BBL candidates should have good skin tone in the hips/buttocks area with adequate pockets of fat in other regions of the body that can be harvested and injected into the buttocks. One other major consideration is that patients will have to avoid sitting directly on their buttocks for several weeks post-op which may be unreasonable for many people.

Choosing a BBL Surgeon

When it comes to selecting a BBL surgeon it is extremely important to do your research and find a surgeon that practices the utmost safety measures. BBLs have a past reputation as unsafe, and although the procedure has had many safety improvements in recent years, a qualified, experienced surgeon primarily focused on safety is an absolute must. It’s also crucial to find a surgeon that will listen to your goals and provide realistic expectations that will lead to optimal end results. Another factor to keep in mind when selecting a surgeon is that your surgeon should be exceptional at BOTH surgical processes used in a BBL procedure, fat transfer – AND – liposuction. A good BBL surgeon will understand how to meet your body goals and achieve appropriate proportions without going overboard.3

Unfortunately, with the exponential rise in demand for BBLs in recent years also comes a rise of BBL procedures performed by overzealous or inexperienced BBL surgeons, and the subsequent demand for … you guessed it … BBL reductions.

As mentioned earlier, when BBLs are done carefully by experienced surgeons they can be a great body enhancement tool, but when the line is crossed, many patients are left feeling as though they have a huge weight (literally) on their back, or they are constantly struggling to find clothing or pants that will fit their exaggerated proportions.

That’s where we come in – the only way to correct an overdone BBL is with liposuction.

Note: Houston Lipo Center does not perform BBLs, but we do offer BBL reversal and BBL reduction liposuction.

BBL Reversal / Reduction Liposuction

With any surgery it’s important to be selective, but even more so when it comes to choosing your BBL reversal / reduction surgeon. BBL reversal / reduction liposuction can lead to unwanted consequences such as sagginess or uneven proportions if not done by an experienced surgeon. A good BBL reversal / reduction liposuction surgeon will understand how to appropriately reduce and contour the buttocks, so that you can keep an optimal shape while reducing the overall volume.

BBL Reversal / Reduction Cost
