Back fat is notoriously difficult to shed through diet and exercise alone, and often can only be slimmed with the help of liposuction.

What Is Back Liposuction?

Back liposuction removes stubborn, localized fat from the upper and middle back — including bra rolls and a buffalo hump at the base of the neck — to create a smoother back and a more defined upper body. At Houston Liposuction Center, back liposuction is performed awake under local (tumescent) anesthesia, so general anesthesia is never required. It targets fat that resists diet and exercise, but it is not a weight-loss method.

The Back Liposuction Procedure

The back is considered two areas — the upper back and the middle back. The lower portion is a separate area, the waist and love handles. Many patients choose to treat these areas together, and often the arms as well, slimming the entire upper half of the body for balanced proportions.

Back liposuction begins with the treatment area being fully numbed while you stay awake — there is no need for general anesthesia, which adds risk. A thin cannula is inserted through tiny incisions to gently suction the fat. The procedure typically takes 1–2 hours, depending on the extent of the case.

Back Liposuction Recovery & Downtime

A compression garment is worn around the treated area to reduce swelling and must be kept on day and night for the following 2 weeks. Because the procedure is performed under local anesthesia, most patients return to work in 1–2 days and can resume strenuous activity and heavy lifting after about 2 weeks. Results vary, but most patients see a noticeable difference within a month. Treating additional areas in the same session may adjust these time frames. Because liposuction removes fat cells — and adults do not grow new ones — the treated area stays slim as long as you maintain a healthy diet and exercise.

Back Liposuction Cost – $5,500 – $6,500 (All Inclusive)

At the time of discharge, all patients are given a prescription for pain medication. If they choose to fill it, they will do so at their own pharmacy. Some patients also choose to buy a second compression garment at their own expense.
